Marie Talaleff Papier-Mâché Sculpture V

Marie Talaleff graduated from the reputed ESMOD Fashion design and Creation school in Paris and went on to work for a number of years as a creative designer for different textile companies.

She especially loves colour and texture.

In 2008, she discovered the plasticity of paper, giving her the freedom to move from flat (as in textile) to volume. Paper has since become her favourite material.

She participated at various exhibitions that lead her to become a member of a prestigious organisation proposing French Art workshops named Ateliers d’Art de France (AFF).

In 2012, she was selected by the Korean Craft and Design Foundation and AAF to go and live in Seoul for a month with the Korean artist, Sim Hwa-sook, who creates from traditional Korean paper called Hanji.

This trip to Asia radically changed her view on paper and on her own work techniques.

Other exhibitions then followed, such as “Bestial”, Galerie Terres d’Aligre, “lorsque le papier fait un carton” Galerie Art et Liberté, Salon d’Art contemporain Mac Paris, Figuration Critique au Bastille Center de Paris etc.

Marie Talalaeff creates from paper and her works are unique.

Her subjects are always animals.

She explains this by the fact that as a child, she lived in a large house where dogs, cats, ornamental ducks, snakes, chameleons and fancy hens cohabited.

The love/hate relationship she had with all these animals most certainly had a strong effect on her to the point of making them her source of inspiration.

Her work falls into 2 categories:

-       In colour: very realistic, bordering on taxidermy,

-       In white: very modern, generally displayed like a trophy.

She creates the base structure using different materials, such as wire netting and electric cable and then sculpts with paper and paper pulp.

The huge diversity of paper provides her with endless possibilities to create, especially papier-mâché, whose very mouldable texture enables her to create any shape or form. DELIVERY IN 8 WEEKS
